Are You Being Diligent in Clearly Living As Your Authentic Self?

Once you are dedicated to being authentically you, then the conscious effort of being diligent takes hold. What do I mean by diligence? I believe it’s the ability to focus carefully on your goal, persistently, while being fully engaged with enthusiasm.

What does being diligent look like for being authentic? Being yourself on purpose each day is what it is. It’s not allowing the egoic mind to chatter negativities in your mind, which causes you to conform, put on masks or armor.

It’s the business of life the ego uses to keep you distracted and, therefore, stuck. Instead, choose to follow your heart and listen to the whispers of your soul consistently.  It’s a carefully thought-out plan of action that you persistently stick to as you manage your time, efforts, and connections.

Also, keep in mind that being diligent has to happen despite the circumstances.  Both in good times and in situations that cause focus to fade, diligence perseveres. No throwing in the towel when the going gets rough, when the negative self-talk begins, or the ego wants you to conform to society.

The Four Characteristics Of Diligent People

The ability to stay aligned with your authenticity is important.  Here are the characteristics of diligent people you can add to your life to help you.

Conscientious people have a growth mindset.  It’s an internal belief you can learn and expand your mind beyond the current knowledge you have.  You believe you can alter your life circumstances by learning new things.  To enhance your mindset, you need to understand how you learn, move out of your comfort zones, and adequately respond when you face disappointments.

Diligent individuals are understanding of others. Your compassion for humanity allows you to forgive people for their missteps.  The empathy you feel enables you to see different perspectives and opinions without judgment. This tolerance for differences, personality quirks, and weaknesses enables you to encourage and inspire those around you. Disagreements and discord are less likely because you aren’t overly concern about how others view you or your goal at living authentically.

Diligently, authentic people have tolerance. You are accepting of others just as they are.  You are resilient because you have self-confidence and determination. Why? Because you have overcome before and you will overcome again.  Any set of circumstances that arises, you know you’ll be able to handle.  And if you take a misstep, you will learn from it.

Industrious people commit to taking consistent action towards their goal of being authentic.  Not just dreaming about what you desire, you are diligently taking the right steps by making an action plan on how to achieve your aim of having your authenticity shine.  And you can pivot and course-correct as needed to keep you moving forward.

If your determination is fixed, I do not counsel you to despair. Few things are impossible to diligence and skill. Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance. ~  Samuel Johnson

Five Ways To Build Your Diligence

When you are dealing with unexpected situations, or when you are trying to put together a plan of action to take you to a place you haven’t been, try these ways to become more diligent and allow you to overcome and be authentically you every day.

1.      Fully Commit To Your Authenticity

Commitment to what you do propels you to work diligently towards your aim of living your truth. When you dedicate yourself to your intentions, you put your best efforts towards achieving your aims. This eagerness to make progress and reach milestones gives you enthusiasm.

Commitment also intensifies your tenacity to your purpose, making you unwavering and resolute, even when facing challenges or opposition like the desire to conform.  When you’re devoted to your authentic goal, your perspective shifts for you to see the need to pivot, alter, or correct your course, and see solutions to the issues that may arise so you can be true to yourself.

Listen to your inner, soulful voice. Consciously choose each day to fully commit to you diligently being authentic. Make it a part of your character that is unwavering.

Diligence which, as it avails in all things, is also of the utmost moment in pleading causes. Diligence is to be particularly cultivated by us; it is to be constantly exerted; it is capable of affecting almost everything. ~  Marcus Tullius Cicero

2.      Be Disciplined In Your Diligence

When you have the aspiration to achieve a goal, you must be fully committed and, therefore, discipline is required. And when you love who you are, it’s easy to work diligently at being authentically you.  This means you are fully engaged in the areas you need to be to allow movement towards the next right action.  Once you’re enthusiastic about the goal you are working towards, your approach to the work changes.

You’re more passionate, have more energy, and are more joyful to be around. Why? Because your authenticity shines through when you are working on projects that inspire you. You’re confidently living out your values as you consider other people’s ideas and suggestions, but you’re leaning more upon following your heart by listening to the whispers of your soul.

Active valor may often be the present of nature, but such patient diligence can be the fruit only of habit and discipline. ~ Edward Gibbon

3.      Have Clarity In Your Purpose

To be diligent, you must have a clear purpose. Just because you have the skill-set and expertise doesn’t mean you have clarity about how you plan and work effectively towards living your truth. When you’ve gained the definiteness of your purpose, then you’re able to see the bigger picture and how to handle the next steps comes with ease and confidence.

With this clarity, you can understand what you need to do to move forward.  Even if you’ve never done the specific task, you get quiet and find the answers within yourself.  Or you seek guidance within your trusted tribe of like-minded people who are encouraging you instead of trying to have you conform or alter your dreams.

And as things begin moving, momentum gathers.  This positive energy attracts others, influences circumstances in a positive way, and allows for better decision-making. See, having clarity about your authenticity allows life to be inflow with the Universe.

4.      Be Compassionate With Yourself

You passionately working at being your authentic self isn’t about being perfect or not taking missteps.  It’s understanding that the more authentic you are, the more easily life flows. Why? Because you aren’t struggling against what is. Instead, you are accepting what is and learning to pivot.

Be compassionate towards yourself if you allow the egoic mind to chatter negatively at you.  Realign yourself if you fall into conformity. Learn to see what situations or which people you struggle with being authentic and determine ways for you to stay true to yourself in the next encounter.

Be patient with yourself. This may be new for you, and you need time to integrate your new way of living. Keep in mind the goal is long-term, but you are only working in the present moment. So, take a deep breath, and be authentic at this moment.

What we hope ever to do with ease, we must learn first to do with diligence. ~  Samuel Johnson

5.      Find Encouraging People To Support Your Diligence

Are your friends and family reassuring you in your endeavor to be authentically you? If not, you need to find like-minded people for you to be around who inspire you by their own authenticity.  When you consciously bond with people who live their truth, it makes it easier for you to live authentically.

Remember, long-time friends and family think they know who you are based on shared experiences. But that doesn’t mean you showed them your authenticity.  Most likely you wore labels they gave you, bore masks of roles you took on, put on armor to protect you, or conformed so you felt accepted. None of which was authentically you.

Show appreciation for the people in your life, but also understand not everyone is on the same journey you are.  It may be time for you to find your tribe of compatible, authentic individuals.

Moving Forward Diligently Being Authentic

The conscientiousness you have when you are fully committed to living your truth leads to your authenticity shining for all to see. Be vigilant in your approach to the daily actions you take. From looking at different perspectives, listening to the whispers of your soul, and seeking wise counsel from your tribe.

Be fiercely optimistic as you begin each day.  No dwelling on any missteps you took yesterday. You have control of your self-talk and you know how to overcome the ego’s fearful disguises.

Once your diligence for living your truth becomes ingrained, you’ll be able to do it effortlessly.  You’ll wonder why you waited so long to just be you.

When you are aligned with your authenticity, you can achieve more. You have more joy and peace because they are soulful qualities rising from within you. There is more passion in your life because you are following your heart, your soul’s desire.  Being diligent in living authentically keeps you strong, courageous, and responding to life from a place of love.
